NOTE : This is a full-time, TEMPORARY (not-to-exceed 1 year) position. This appointment may be renewed for additional service in accordance with Agency needs. This position is located at the Leavenworth VA Medical Center in Leavenworth, KS. Some of the duties include, but may not be limited to:
Feeding spreader-feeder for flatwork ironing large pieces.
Unloading conveyor system onto flow racks and/or placing items in turnaround for bulk shipment.
Maintaining a count of linen items placed into turnaround carts for bulk shipment.
Operates flatwork ironers, folder-cross-folder, small piece folder, spreader feeder, blanket folder and tying machines.
Sorting soiled linen according to classification.
Unloads soiled linen carts from laundry trucks.
Feeds linen items such as towels, pajamas, robes, etc. into small piece folder.
Feeds thermal blankets, cotton blankets and spreads into blanket folder.
Feeds small pieces into ironer.
Hand folds linens.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 7AM - 3:30PM
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C ( ). For this position, the job element method is used to match what you, the applicant, can do against what the work calls for. Your knowledge, skills and abilities will be compared to the knowledge, skills and abilities (called job elements) needed for success. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element (WG-2 and higher only; screen-outs are not applicable to WG-1). Applicants who appear to meet the screen out element are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated from consideration. The potential eligibles are rated against the remainder of the job elements. Physical effort and work conditions :
PHYSICAL EFFORTS: The physical demands of the position require some heavy movement of laundry weighing up to 800 pounds and use of conveyors are required along with the stamina to perform physical labor. Continuous walking, standing, stooping, bending, lifting and arduous physical effort is required in the performance of the manual tasks described; such as continuous folding and processing of linens and operating powered equipment over extended periods of time.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Working conditions such as ventilation and environment are difficult, working in hot humid temperatures, handling soiled and/or contaminated linen items where personal protective equipment is required. Incumbent may be subject to noise, skin irritations, cuts and bruises. Work performed requires continuous walking when making inspections in various areas. When performing textile operation tasks moderate effort is expended.
