Duties include but not limited to:
Overall responsibility of the Laundry and Linen program. Responsible for the operation processing approximately three million pounds of linen for the western orbit of VISN 15; servicing 651 beds as well as multiple Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs). This includes providing linens to medical centers at Columbia, MO; Wichita, KS; Kansas City, MO; and VA Eastern Kansas - Leavenworth and Topeka. Planning, organizing, directing, evaluating and management process of the program. The Textile Care Processing Facility (TCPF) has developed subsets and staff, which collectively encompass operational facets generally unique to other programs at the other five Network Medical Centers. Within such a framework, the department continually improves its operations while functioning with maximum efficiency. Manages all technical, administrative and procedural aspects including staffing, training, process, workload, budget, inventory, production design and equipment maintenance and replacement. Plans, implements and directs all activities as well as evaluates the effectiveness of these activities to achieve departmental goals and organizational missions and objectives in accordance with established federal, legal, regulatory and policy directives. Prepares and completes reports that measure the performance of the programs, specifically the Cost of Operations Workbook as well as Production Reports. Develops and updates policies and standards of work as necessary. Collaborates with other Service Lines when such policies or standards of work affect other departments. Manages a variety of computer equipment and computer-based monitoring tools designed to ensure/improve the performance of the programs. Responsible for overall operation and maintenance of the equipment in the laundry and its impact on the organization and customers affected. Works closely with Engineering, communicating daily with the laundry mechanic on duty to confirm preventative maintenance schedule is adhered to, repairs needed are completed and anticipated downtime is kept to a minimum. Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-09 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Lead/Supervising at least three (3) or more employees. Developing policies and standards of work. Preparing and monitoring reports for laundry production. Creating, monitoring, and adjusting budget data. Knowledge of Laundry Department areas within a Healthcare System. Knowledgeable of the use, effectiveness, and proper handling of laundry equipment. The work requires daily walking, standing, crouching, stooping, stretching and lifting of up to 50 pounds. The administrative portion of the incumbent's work is more sedentary with computer usage and committee attendance.
